EDDM route planning: put your card on the right streets
EDDM route planning means choosing which USPS carrier routes get your card. Each route is about 400 to 700 homes, and every home on it gets one. Pick the routes around your shop, your listings, or your past jobs on our free route map, with home counts and the full price as you go. For bigger or odder areas, we build a custom route plan for you, free.
Two ways to plan routes
Do it yourself, free. Our route planner shows the carrier routes in a ZIP Code. Tap the ones you want. You see homes, businesses, and the total price right away.
Let us plan it, free. A circle around your shop, whole neighborhoods, a district, many ZIP Codes, or the streets around your customers. Send a custom route request, and you get the routes, home count, and price within 1 business day.
Where to start
- Your shop or office. Dentists, restaurants, gyms, and churches do best with the homes closest to the door.
- Your listing. Agents mail the routes around a new listing or sale.
- Your past jobs. Lawn, HVAC, and roofing crews mail where they already work. Neighbors trust a company next door used.
- Main streets. Selling to businesses? Pick routes tagged as business routes.
Rules that shape your routes
- EDDM goes to every home on a route. You cannot skip houses.
- You choose homes only, or homes and businesses. Businesses only is not allowed.
- Retail EDDM takes up to 5,000 pieces per ZIP Code per day.
- Routes do not follow city or district lines. Edge routes cost the full route.
How many routes to start with
Most first mailings use 4 to 8 routes, about 2,000 to 5,000 homes. That is enough to see results, and the price per home drops at 1,000, 2,500, and 5,000 homes.
Then mail the same routes again. Repeat cards build on the first one. Save the routes once and reuse them on a monthly plan.
EDDM or a mailing list?
If almost every home near you could be a customer, EDDM routes are the lowest cost way to reach them. If only some homes matter, like new movers or past customers, addressed mail to a list may fit better. Read EDDM vs addressed mail, or ask us on the custom routes page.
